OSLC Mission Budget

The congregation tithes 10% of our (first fruits) offerings to the mission and ministries of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and to non-profit organizations evaluated and selected by the OSLC Mission Board. In general, we support programs that respond to unmet spiritual, social, emotional and material human needs, including outreach and advocacy ministries to those who are disabled, hungry, homeless, illiterate, elderly, unemployed, alone, depressed, incarcerated, or dying. We support the development of new faith communities for the unchurched, especially those incorporating indigenous leadership. We support programs involved in restorative justice, reconciliation, nonviolence, and mercy. We endorse programs that empower people to make decisions about their own communities, rather than having solutions imposed from above. We value partnership whenever possible. We are open to new and creative ideas.

Funds sent to the Sierra Pacific Synod of the ELCA support both domestic and global programs. Along with these, we give to organizations such as:

  • Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary
  • Mt. Cross Outdoor Ministries
  • Lutheran Social Services
  • Salem Lutheran Home
  • Contact Care/Senior Helpline Services
  • Lamorinda Interfaith Voucher Program
  • Loaves & Fishes
  • New Directions Counseling
  • Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County
  • Monument Community Partnership:
    • Children's Story Time
    • Young Life
    • Rancho Santa Marta
    • Lutheran Volunteer Corps
    • Intervarsity Christian Fellowship @ St. Marys College
    • Hope for the Heart of Africa
    • Stand with Africa
    • Guatemala Women's Education
    • Operation Christmas Child
    • Adopt a Family
    • Friends Outside
    • and the Contra Costa Interfaith Housing Corp.

We also have special appeals and campaigns for some of these groups. We also provide free office and meeting space for Senior Helpline Services, AA and numerous other approved non-profits.

To become a member of the Board of Mission, join us on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at OSLC.
